Update 2.8 – New USSR Vehicles!

After the introduction of the new German Light Tanks in Update 2.6, it’s about time we added more steel beasts to the game. Thus, with the release of Update 2.8 , the USSR tech tree will be reinforced with four new Tank Destroyers, finishing with the Object 263 on Tier X.

  • SU-100M1 (Tier VII)
  • SU-101 (Tier VIII)
  • SU-122-54 (Tier IX)
  • Object 263 (Tier X)

So, what is the difference between the two Tank Destroyer lines? Well in this case it’s all about mobility and guns. The new vehicles are very agile compared to their tier-for-tier Soviet counterparts. When it comes to fire power, don’t expect to find 152 mm alpha damage monsters here – calibres, and therefore damage, are smaller. However, because of that, their rate of fire is much better, making these tank destroyers more flexible. In conclusion, the tanks in this line are great supporters but can also be brawlers in certain situations. The tank closing the line, the Object 263, is quite different than the vehicles leading to it – let’s see why:

Object 263

  • Hit Points: 1750
  • Hull Armour:
  1. Front: 250 mm
  2. Sides: 80 mm
  3. Rear: 50 mm
  • Weight: 60.01 t
  • Engine Power: 1050 hp
  • Speed Limit: 55 km/h
  • Traverse Speed: 30 deg/s
  • Standard Shell Damage: 345 – 575 HP (avg. 460 HP)
  • Standard Shell Penetration: 218 – 363 mm (avg. 290 mm)
  • Rate of Fire: 7.06 rounds per minute
  • Aiming Time: 2.3 s
  • Dispersion at 100 m: 0.32 m
  • View Range: 255 m

The vehicle has been developed on the basis of the IS-7. It’s armed with the unique 130 mm cannon that can deal 460 points of damage on average. Despite having the lowest alpha damage among all Tier X tank destroyers the gun makes up for it with a great rate of fire, accuracy and aim time. Taking large chunks of enemy tanks’ hit points in a short period of time is its speciality. The only drawback of this gun really is its poor depression. Therefore, make sure not to place yourself on ridge lines as you might be unpleasantly surprised.

Now, let’s talk about the other unique feature of the tank - its armour. While the tanks in this line can occasionally bounce some shells, this beast is capable of withstanding almost every frontal attack. Except for being really thick, the armour is also well-angled, making it even more difficult to penetrate. The only, noticeable weakness on the front is the lower plate. Hide it and we wish your opponents luck trying to go through your front. Unfortunately, the poorly armoured sides and rear can be easily penetrated, so make sure not to expose them if you don’t want to lose HP quickly.

The Object 263 features good mobility, with great top speed and acceleration, allowing it to reach key positions quickly. With this tank, you can either perform a supportive role or, if you feel like it, brawl and wreak havoc among enemy forces!
