STORE: KV-5 & SU-76i!

This time we have something unique, especially for those of you who value strong Soviet armour above everything else! Almost everyone knows the KV-5, a huge steel fortress that is capable of withstanding incoming fire like a boss! Here’s your chance to add it to your tank collection. But wait, that’s not all! What’s that little machine hiding behind the KV-5? It’s small, inconspicuous and … proficient in wreaking havoc! Let us introduce you to the SU-76i and its wild “Ice Claw” camo, appearing for the first time in World of Tanks Blitz!

SU-76i – A little bit of history

The tank was developed in 1943 at Sverdlovsk plant No. 37, on the basis of two captured German tanks: the StuG III and Pz.Kpfw. III. The turret of the latter was replaced with a new enclosed superstructure. A total of 200 vehicles were manufactured. Their first appearance on the battlefield took place in the defence of Kursk. In early 1944, the vehicle was replaced with the SU-76M and from then on was used for training purposes until the end of 1945.

Now, this extraordinary vehicle appears in the game. Let’s see if there is more to it than meets the eye!

In the beginning, we mentioned strong Soviet armour and this phrase describes the SU-76i perfectly! Despite being a Tier III vehicle, the armour is incredibly thick making it impenetrable for most other Tier III vehicles, excluding some tank destroyers. What’s more, it has no frontal weak spots – sounds good, doesn’t it?

If you thought that the armour is compensating for poor gun performance, then you were wrong: its 76 mm gun has a very high alpha damage and is capable of punching through most Tier IV tanks with ease!

The mobility of the tank is not that great, but it’s definitely decent, both when it comes its to top speed and its hull traverse capabilities.

Unfortunately, as with any other tank in the game, this one also has some drawbacks. Firstly, as with most Soviet vehicles, the gun has poor accuracy, meaning that sniping with this vehicle is almost impossible. The other downside related to its armament is its narrow gun arc and poor gun depression. In other words, you need to position yourself wisely, if you want to be useful to your team.

Last but not least, the tank accelerates rather slowly and doesn’t like soft terrain, so you need to take that into account as well.

In conclusion, the tank is a great choice for everyone who likes head-on combat, where most of the drawbacks of the gun don’t really matter that much. The vehicle performs best on hard and flat terrain, but that doesn’t mean that you cannot make great use of it elsewhere! Plow through enemy forces using its fantastic armour and great alpha damage, and watch them flee in fear!
