STORE: New Tanks Sighted – Edelweiss & Nameless!

Commanders,

How will tanks from a fictional world measure up against historical tanks from the real one? Now’s your chance to find out! Our collaboration with Valkyria Chronicles is bringing two new tanks into the game, Edelweiss and Nameless!

If you want to find out more about the new vehicles, check out the detailed info below!

Edelweiss

Backstory

The Edelweiss, commanded by the story's lead character, Welkin Gunther, commander of Squad 7 of the Gallian Militia's 3rd regiment, was the hero of the popular SEGA title Valkyria Chronicles. Although still a prototype, the tank proved to be formidable thanks to its revolutionary design incorporating many innovations which helped it achieve great success on the battlefield.

Statistics and gameplay

In World of Tanks Blitz, the Tier VII Edelweiss strikes a fine balance between offence and defence and is similar in many ways to the German medium tank, the Panther. When comparing its armour characteristics, the Edelweiss features 90 mm of frontal armour but only 40mm on its sides and back, which is similar to the 85/50/40 mm armour layout of the Panther. Such a tank favours mobility, sacrificing protection to ensure it can attack quickly in any situation or while on the move.

When it comes to firepower, the Edelweiss stands out compared to the Panther. A better rate of fire along with good penetration and damage output allows it to out-perform its German counter-part. These traits put the tank in the same offensive category as some heavy tanks.

In regards to its mobility, the Edelweiss has an 850 hp engine in a 38 tons chassis, but its top speed falls slighlty short of the Panther’s at 53 km/h. On paper, the tank seems to be built for quick dashes, allowing aggressive players to hit the enemy hard and press the attack.

Nameless

Backstory

The Nameless tank appears as the primary assault vehicle for Squad 422, a unit of the regular Gallian army. This unit was known to be composed of deserters and other criminals whose real names had been erased from official records and were instead referred to by numbers. The Nameless was commanded by a Darcsen known as Number 6, although his real name was Gusurg.

Statistics and gameplay

The Nameless is a Tier VII heavy tank with armour rated at 150/80/40 mm on the front, side and back plates respectively. When compared to the Tiger I, a heavy tank of the same Tier, the front plate is much better armoured. In fact, the Nameless plays a lot like the Tiger's older brother, the Tier VIII Tiger II, being very hard to penetrate from the front. However, special care needs to be taken with the turret, as it’s “only” 120 mm thick. The rear armour is also a glaring weakness for a heavy tank, meaning that even lower Tier tanks can easily penetrate it if they manage to get behind you. The tank performs best on offence, but its relative lack of durability means exchanging damage may prove to be a risky strategy.

With a 750 hp engine, the Nameless overpowers the Tiger I. However, it weights 63 tons, meaning it can only reach a top speed of 32 km/h. Also, since it has limited ground-covering capability when engaging enemies, careful coordination with allies is required to get the best out of this vehicle. Undoubtedly, your teammates will appreciate your ability to consistently penetrate and damage enemy tanks, as the Nameless packs a serious punch with an average damage of 310 HP per shell!

These two exceptional, fictional tanks will be up for grabs in the Store from 15 September at 12:00 CEST (UTC+2) to 30 September at 11:00 CEST (UTC+2).
